Relive the Doom games the way you want
Doom III: BFA Edition Mod—simply known as DOOM BFA Edition—is a free video game utility that updates the RBDOOM-3-BFG source port of popular action game, Doom 3: BFG Edition. Developed by MoDFaNGuy, this mod unlocks various missing features in the game and source port and even improves the game’s engine. Unfortunately, despite the active development, it won’t always be compatible with other great mods as it is dependent on the RBDOOM-3-BFG source code.
Better than ever
Doom 3: BFG Edition is a 2012 remastered version of Doom 3, a 2004 horror first-person shooter video game by id Software. This edition includes not only Doom 3’s expansion packs but Doom, Doom II, and their expansions, as well. Just like the other games in the series, fans were inspired to create different source ports after the games’ codes were publicly released and one such port for this remaster was RBDOOM-3-BFG.
Previously known as Classic RBDOOM 3 BFG, this mod pretty much just covers whatever RBDOOM-3-BFG happens to have left out from the game—which is mostly a lot since this port focused more on upgraded shadow rendering. You can now play multiplayer for the first two games, and the mod supports Doom II’s Master Levels, Final DOOM’s expansions, and original Ultimate DOOM and Doom II WADs. This even improves support for other mods of the games.
Not only that but it also restores intermission background animations and original main menu background images. You can now easily access the cheats, change the Flashlight, use the classic weapon view, be able to hide the crosshair, enjoy the third-person perspective, and quickly adjust settings and load other mods for all the games. Much of the issue with this mod is just about its lack of direct mod support.
A real improvement
Overall, Doom III: BFA Edition Mod is definitely something that Doom 3: BFG Edition fans should try out. It really upgrades RBDOOM-3-BFG to its max potential and brings back all the beloved features from the games. If you happen to have the source port required and would like to fix your BFG Edition experience, then this is a highly-recommended mod.
